Rancho Ecológico El Refugio is a place where nature’s magic and environmental conservation are embraced.

The López family are your hosts for the bed and breakfast and Rogelio Rosas López is the family representative. During the day the camp is often bustling with activities as day visitors arrive to engage in all the different activities th ranch has to offer. In the late afternoon things start to settle in for the evening and the serene, tranquil energy finds it’s way back to the ranch. There is lot’s to explore and it is highly reccommended you stay within the ranch property. A short walk to the small, slow moving river (rio) offers natural freshwater pools to swim in and the property has many short trails to walk. Any form of hiking in the mountains should be done with the local ranch guides and you are asked not to travel off the beaten track. This is for your safety in the invent of an accident.

All taxes are included however there is a 200 pesos entrance fee to enter the biosphere reserve, per person, not included in the BNB price. Some of the more labor intensive activities have a cost to it and you can ask upon arrival. Not all activities may be available to guests. Most activities need to be arranged in advance and are available in the Panterra Add-Ons section at time of booking and payment.

These activities include:
1. Nature hikes of 1 hour or more
2. Hike to the cave paintings – must be in good shape
3. Leather workshop
4. Mexican ranch-style cooking classes which are more like a cooking experience
5. Milking the farm animals to learn how to make the famous Mexican ranch cheese

Lunch and dinner is available for 250 pesos ($14.00 USD) and can be pre-purchased. They are ranch-style meals consisting of of meat, vegetarian and organic salads. If you have any dietary restrictions that cannot be accomodated by the above, may we kindly suggest you make plans to bring your own.

Pre-booking activities and meals (lunch and dinner)  through Panterra at the time of your BNB reservation will insure the services are available and delivered. The costs are very inexpensive and covers the basic guide and labour costs. We are working with the ranch to promote this amazing, nature tourism and a portion of the monies recieved goes towards ranch conservation programs.

Enjoy one of Baja California Sur’s most important and protected mountain sites. You will leave with a calm, and appreciation of what nature does for the soul!
